Panayotis Chatzistamatiou was born in Athens, in 1966. He studied Civil Engineering at Dimokritos University of Thrace. He completed successfully his postgraduate studies at Durham University, in England. He worked as Civil Engineer in Olympic Metro, in El. Benizelos Airport construction company (Hochtief), in the commission of Olympic Games 2004. Now he is working in DESFA S.A., a company responsible of construction and processing of Natural Gas Transmission Network in the Greek territory. He lives and works in Athens.
He studied painting-iconography next to painter-iconographer and Professor at the National University of Athens George Kordis and a team of his excellent students Kanellos Kanellopoulos, Stavros Tsakidis and Nektarios Mamais. He completed his art studies in 2010.
He is a member of iconography association “Eikonourgia”. Following the guidance and teaching of Pr. G.Kordis, against the spirit of our age, that too many people, understand the byzantine icon like a museum fact, he attempts to read into the Byzantine painting a valuable and all time “pictorial language”, as a means that once served and still can serve church reality. By conceiving the Byzantine painting thus, it can be used as a firm ground, on which a unique and genuine Greek pictorial interpretation can stand.
